The UK’s Daily Mail (Jan 1, 2012 by Ellis) reported, “A quarter of cases of the most common form of skin cancer in the under-40s could be prevented if sunbeds were banned, research suggests.” Researchers found that “indoor tanning significantly increases the risk of basal cell carcinoma (BCC).” The “study, from doctors at Yale University in the US and published in the Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology, is the latest to show the damaging effects of sunbeds on the skin.”
In Australia, if the number of BCCs is reduced by 25%, tens of millions of tax dollars could be saved on top of the tremendous traumatic personal experiences spared.
