What is a Dermatologist ?

Dermatologists are trained by the Australasian College of Dermatologists.

Entry into the 5-year training programme is extremely competitive. All candidates. obviously, are already medical practitioners who went through 5-6 years of undergraduate Medical School. Furthermore, it is not uncommon for candidates to be already holders of higher medical qualifications such as Fellowships from other Specialist Medical Colleges or Master / Doctor of Philosophy degrees by research. On average, it takes 10 to 15 years after medical school to train a Dermatologist.

Dermatologist Practices must be distinguished from the so-called “skin cancer clinics” which are staffed by practitioners with basic medical degrees but NO specialist training.
